May / June 2008
After completing the last round of chemo, Jacquline goes on a trip to Disney World, Florida with her family and then continues on to Europe with her mom and sister to see several doctors, including the professor who leads the study Jacquline took part in. They learn the tumor was still 30% active at the time of removal (surgery last year in Seattle). Originally, they were told the tumor had been dead. The professor suggests radiation treatment of the pelvic area, a treatment that was not even offered in the US as an option.
Another main concern is post-chemo detox.
August 2008
Jacquline relapses. During a routine bone scan, a pancake shaped growth is discovered on Jacquline's skull. It is located near the brain but Jacquline is not showing any side effects. Her parents decide to try an alternative treatment method which allows Jacquline to lead a fairly normal life, including going to school, horsback riding, and having fun with her family and friends.
Fall 2008
The treatment is successful. To the surprise of many western medicine doctors, the tumor shrinks and completely disappears within a short amount of time.
Early 2009
Excruciation pain in Jacquline's lower back radiates all the way into her leg. Doctors are not sure of the cause. A trip to Seattle's Children Hospital confirms it. A new growth pushes on the spinal nerve and needs to be removed. Surgery is performed soon after.
April 2009
Jacquline recoveres from surgery but soon the pain returns. Several heavy pain killers are necessary to make life somewhat bearable. The possibility of a surgical screw located near the spinal cord as the reason for the pain is being discussed. Jacquline and her mom Annette travel to Brazil to see a healer.
Later in April, Jacquline starts radiation therapy and another form of chemo. This time, there is no need to temporarily move to Oahu, since treatment is now possible on Maui. Radiation is making Jacquline very tired, but it also caused the tumor to shrink and releave the pain in her lower back. Jacquline's body is also dealing with the many side effects of pain medication, including an upset digestive system.>
